Started roasting coffee in 2021. Opened her shop in 2023. Closed in 2024 due to being in the wrong location among other things. Romeos closed and she will be taking over that location. Her husband is Corey Rich. She is the Secretary of the Chamber of Commerce. She is passionate about small businesses. Kozy Kabin will be opening soon.

Speaker:

Tom Edwards V on the insurance industry. Thomas owns the Insurance Center of Louisville on the corner of Main and MIll. Currently contracts with 7 carriers. He is a Louisville Grad, went to Ohio Northern and got a Business degree. Worked for Tom Edwards accounting. Took over the Insurance Center in 1995. 35 years ago he would never have guessed that he would be here in Louisville but he loves it and he loves that he has been able to raise his family here. Currently the Insurance business is the most aggressive and crazy it has been in the past 30 years. Premiums and rapidly increased and in most cases doubled. Home owner rates have gone thru the roof. Auto insurance has stayed basically the same. The most changes have been in the homeowners category. Underwriting homeowners insurance has gone the route of checking credit scores. The lower the credit score the higher the premium. Also insurance prefers clients that can package home and auto. As pricing goes up it hurts everyone. 1. Insurance to evaluated the cost to rebuild. Currently rebuilding in running 200-300k more than prior to COVID. Finding qualified tradesmen is difficult. Top end coverage is hard. Most choose to rebuild when there is total loss. Fortunately only a few devastating claims. 2. Water damage is the 2nd largest problem. Frozen pipes can do alot of damage. The average claim for that is $40-50k 3. Roof claims are very common. Split deductible $1k fire, $200k wind and hail coverage with an $8k deductible is becoming very commonplace. Unfortunately many can’t afford the deductible and it is becoming a problem for the mortgage companies. Many companies give depreciation instead of actual replacement cost. For example, a roof is good for 10 years and was put in 8 years ago then the depreciation value of 2 years would be paid out which would leave the homeowner with a significant amount of money to pay for their roof. You need to know what kind of insurance you are buying. 4. Companies are starting to pull out of Ohio. Ohio is being labeled as a storm state. That is what has happened in Florida. All of the   flooding insurance in Florida is handled by FEMA. FEMA gets higher to the coast. Deductibles are upwards of $50 - 100k. On the coast condos are the best bet as the HOAs have greater buying power. Umbrella Insurance is really key because nowadays people love to sue. Guys like Tim Misney “will make you pay”. Insurance companies have gone to doing satellite imagery and even drone usage to look at your property. Trampolines often automatically decline from underwriters.

Speaker: Casey Ellington of Ellington Farms Casey is the owner of Ellington Farms. She is married to Charlie and has 4 children. They primarily farm cattle. They are 1st generation farmers on their farm. Across America the cattle numbers are at the lowest they have been since even their parents started farming. She started in 2012 with 4 cows and now they have more than 200. Charlie is a Ruminant nutritionist and specializes in optimizing the diet, health and productivity of the cows. With better nutrition, they have decreased mortality rates. They have a wonderful vet who is really available for all of their questions. As 1st generation farmers they have to be on the cutting edge. They sell farm to table beef and have a small shop where you can order ahead or get available cuts on demand right on their property. They also have a food truck where they sell burgers made with their beef and homemade rootbeer. They take their trailer to fairs and festivals and will be at the Memorial Day Festivities as well as the soccer tournaments. Casey explained that her business is not as simple as raising cows. They are always buying and raising cows. The average cattle farmer in Ohio has 20 cows. The largest in Ohio has 1800 cows. Currently the Ellingtons are as maxed out as they can be right now. Her oldest son is 11 and he loves it. Coy was chosen to do a community service project for the Ronald McDonald House. The ELlingtons work with the Ohio Food Bank and deliver around 7500 lbs of ground beef to Akron, Canton, and Loraine Food Banks. There are a record number of families that need food nowdays. The Ellingtons also take their cows to schools and do demonstrations there. They explain the circle of life and the food circle to students. Grain fed vs grass fed is really personal preference. Certain breeds do better on grass. Cattle fed on grain make a more marbled cut. The Ellingtons are on grain all the time with access to grass and hay. They also work with a lab that monitors the cows and the feed. The productivity of the cows depends on what is fed to them. Certain cows finish in 14-15 months. The cattle market is very high currently due to shortages. Day old dairy cattle are going for 2500. The Ellingtons are a huge proponent of the Farm Bureau. If you are a farmer, be a member. The Farm Bureau helps make policy. They advocate for things like coyote hunting laws. The other thing they have been helpful with is working with the parks and the Rails to trails initiative and also advocating for the parks not taking farm land by eminent domain. The definition of farming has gotten tricky with solar farms cropping up. Not all their cows are for butchering. Casey and her family do have pet cows. Some of her cows will be with them until they die of old age. They name their cows and one even has a blow dryer. All are welcome to come visit their farm. If you are looking for quality beef raised right in Louisville with no dyes or fillers, look no further than Ellington Farms.

Speaker:

Chance Bricker was unable to make it due to a hip replacement. Mark Sigler was the speaker. Mark Sigler on What it Means to be a Leopard He has had 6 generations of his family attend Louisville Schools. His wife was the Principal at the former Pleasant Grove School. In 1948 his Mother in Law and Father In Law were the last senior class of the Blue Raiders. Mark remembers watching the running back #67 Robert L Moffet and the accident in which 3 kids were involved and 1, Moffet was killed. Mark’s friend Gene was in the car and so was Dennis Biery. He remembers how the whole town came together and how the #67 jersey was honored. You see that impact still today with the Robert L. Moffett scholarship. Most recently Mark’s great granddaughter is now a leopard. The Sigler household has always voted for the Louisville School Levy’s. Louisville City Schools are asking to renew the levy at 2.562 mil. Yes valuation has gone up but by law they can not take anymore than the current being taken on a renewal. Unfortunately the district gets a smaller % on the number due to state changes. Remember a quality education provides access to opportunity.

Speaker: Erin Ferrick,

Program Manager with the Legacy Project of Stark County The Legacy Project is a youth mentoring program in Stark County that is vastly school based. The program empowers kids to reach their full potential through mentorship. The three tiers of mentorship are Elementary grades K-3, InPact grades 4-6, Swag grades 9-12. Meetings are always during the school day In Louisville they are in the Middle School only. In the 2025-2026 school year, at LMS there were 24 mentors and roughly 100 mentees. In the 2025-2026 school year throughout Stark County there were 300 volunteer mentors and approximately 1300 students. The 2026-2027 goal is for 1700 student mentees in turn which means there is a critical need for more mentors. 2 volunteer mentors meet with groups of 4-6 mentees during each session. There are no qualifiers for the students to participate. Most students are referred by their teacher or guidance counselor. Some students even reach out on their own especially if a friend or classmate is a mentee. There are also learn and serve opportunities specifically designed for businesses. There is a fundraising gala in November with a basket raffle. If you would like to volunteer or would like to donate or attend the fundraise please contact Erin Ferrick at 330-880-3176 or eferrick@lpstark.org
